WHAT IS SATIN?
We know it feels heavenly. We know it looks sexy. But how does one fabric achieve so much style and substance?
There’s a host of benefits behind our favourite lustrous fabric, not least the meaning it gives to the phrase “beauty sleep”. Satin reduces friction (the reason it glides over skin), resisting wrinkles in its own fabric and leaving fewer marks on your skin.
It’s also less absorbent than most fabrics, helping you retain your skin’s natural oils and carefully curated moisturising creams.
Evidence suggests keeping a cooler body temperature at night improves your deepest sleep cycles - just as cool-to-touch satin is primed to do. But here lies the difference between satin and silk: the synthetic fibres of satin are less breathable than silk’s natural fibres, making satin a better pick for cooler winter nights.
So we know satin is cosy, but it’s also super convenient, and more durable than silk.
How to wash satin? Simply throw it in the machine, but take care to wash it no hotter than 30 degrees, and avoid the dryer.
