Frequently Asked Questions

What are period pants and how do they work?

Period pants (also known as period knickers) are reusable underwear, designed to absorb menstrual flow, offering a comfortable and more sustainable alternative to disposable period products. They work using 4 built-in layers: a soft, moisture-wicking top layer keeps you feeling dry, an absorbent core locks in fluid, an extra layer provides leak protection, and the outer layer helps control odor.

Which absorbency period pants do I need

Choosing the right absorbency period pants depends on your flow and how you usually manage your period. If you typically use around 2–3 regular tampons per day, Medium Flow Period Knickers are a great option for everyday wear, providing reliable protection for moderate days. If you have a heavier flow or would usually go through 4 or more tampons a day, Heavy Flow Period Knickers are a better choice. They offer higher absorbency and extra reassurance, making them ideal for your heaviest days or overnight use. Many people find it helpful to have both absorbency levels so they can switch depending on where they are in their cycle.

How long can you wear period pants for?

As period pants are designed to replace single use menstrual products, you can wear period pants for up to 8-12 hours.

How do you wash period pants?

To keep your period pants in the best condition, rinse them in cold water after use. Then, machine-wash them at 40°C with similar colours. Avoid using fabric softener, as these can affect the absorbency of the fabric. Once washed, air drying is recommended. Please check the care label for more information.

How long do period pants last?

Boux Avenue’s period pants are washable and reusable for up to 2 years!

Do period pants smell?

When used and washed correctly, period pants should not smell. The absorbent layers are designed to lock in moisture and help control odour. To avoid any unwanted smells, rinse them soon after use and wash them regularly. Avoid leaving them unwashed for long periods, and ensure they are fully dry before wearing them again.
